BCH Border Crossings Between Russia and Ukraine

Border Crossings Between Russia and Ukraine

Historically, the nearly 2,300-kilometer border between Russia and Ukraine was one of the longest and busiest in Eastern Europe, a place of deep, interconnected family and economic ties. There were dozens of official crossing points, from major multi-lane motorways to small local roads, reflecting the close relationship between the two nations following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The most significant crossing was at Nekhoteyevka (Russia) and Hoptivka (Ukraine), on the main highway connecting the major cities of Belgorod and Kharkiv. This route saw a constant flow of cars, buses, and trucks, as did other key crossings like Troyebortne-Bachevsk.

It is crucial to state that the situation has fundamentally changed. Due to the ongoing armed conflict that began in 2022, all official land border crossings between Russia and Ukraine are closed to travelers. The entire border region is an active war zone. It is extremely dangerous and impossible to cross. The information about its prior state serves as a historical reference to a time of peace. Any attempt to approach or cross this border under current conditions would be life-threatening. This frontier is no longer a travel route but a frontline of a major international conflict.
