Border Crossings Between Burkina Faso and Ghana

You connect two countries along a 602 km border running from the Ivory Coast tripoint in the west to the Togo tripoint in the east. Burkina Faso and Ghana share this frontier that follows sections of the Black Volta River and includes straight segments. You mainly cross at the busy Paga-Dakola post on the main route from Ouagadougou toward Accra or Tema; lesser points include Hamile, Tumu, and areas near Bawku. Informal paths exist but official ones reduce complications with authorities.

You check security and road conditions beforehand, especially along trade corridors. Paga sees heavy truck and trader movement, while northern posts handle more local traffic. Harmattan dust from December to February lowers visibility; heavy rains May to October often slow progress on unpaved sections. Have small local currency and documents organized. Nearby you can visit crocodile pools at Paga or explore northern Ghana markets right after stamping through. Plan buffer time for multiple agency checks.
