The 684-kilometer border between Kenya and Somalia is a long, porous, and arid frontier that is currently considered one of the most dangerous in the world. It is a frontline in the long-running conflict with the Al-Shabaab militant group. For you as a traveler, this border is a closed and high-risk security zone.
While official crossing points such as Liboi-Dhobley exist on paper, the land border has been officially closed by the Kenyan government for many years. There is no safe or legal way for a foreign national to cross this frontier for tourism or general travel.
The entire border region is subject to a very high security threat. Al-Shabaab militants have historically used the porous border to launch attacks inside Kenya, and the area is characterized by a heavy military presence, frequent security operations, and a high risk of kidnapping and violent crime.
You must not attempt to travel to or near this border. All official government travel advisories will warn in the strongest possible terms against travel to the counties in Kenya that border Somalia and against all travel to Somalia itself. The political and security realities have made this frontier an impassable barrier for any traveler.
