Border Crossings Between Czech Republic and Poland

The border between the Czech Republic and Poland is a long and winding frontier defined for much of its length by the Sudetes mountain range. This is a region of shared folklore, historic spa towns, and a deep legacy of mining and industry that has shaped the character of both nations. Following the accession of both countries to the Schengen Area, the dozens of crossing points—from major highways to remote mountain trails—are now completely open for unrestricted travel. The area around the Krkonoše Mountains (in Czech) or Karkonosze (in Polish) is particularly popular. This range is a shared national park, allowing you to hike from one country to the other amidst stunning alpine scenery.

A notable feature that perfectly illustrates the close relationship between the two countries is the “Polish-Czech Friendship Trail.” This marked 140-kilometer hiking path runs along the main ridge of the mountains, weaving back and forth across the international border dozens of times. One moment you are in Poland, the next in the Czech Republic, without any checkpoints or barriers. It’s a tangible and beautiful way to experience the reality of a borderless Europe in a region of exceptional natural beauty.
