Border Crossings Between Austria and Slovenia

The Karawanks, a formidable and beautiful mountain range in the Southern Limestone Alps, form the primary border between Austria and Slovenia. This border region is also home to a recognized and protected Slovene-speaking minority in the Austrian state of Carinthia. The presence of bilingual town signs and cultural institutions on the Austrian side is a testament to the area's intertwined cultural fabric and a successful example of cross-border minority rights protection in Europe.
