Chavuma Zambezi Remote in Post-War Savanna

The 1,063-kilometer border between Angola and Zambia is a remote and sparsely populated frontier, a line that cuts through the vast, wooded savanna of the Zambezi basin. For decades, this was a closed and inaccessible region due to the long Angolan Civil War. Today, it is slowly re-emerging as a route for intrepid travelers and regional trade.

Jimbe Basic Self-Sufficient in Culture Wildlife Frontier

The primary crossing point is at Chavuma, located where the Zambezi River flows from Angola into Zambia. This is a very remote border post, and the journey to it from either side is a challenging undertaking on roads that can be difficult, especially during the rainy season. Another crossing exists further south at Jimbe.
